'Salon L'Inde des Livres' in Paris on 19-20 November 2016

Under the framework of ‘Namasté France’ festival, the Indo-French cultural association, ‘Les Comptoris de l’Inde’ organised ‘Salon L’Inde des Livres’ in 20th arrondissement Mayor’s office at Place Gambetta in Paris on 19-20 November 2016. Deputy Chief of Mission Manish Prabhat and Deputy Mayor of 20th arrondissement Mohamad Gassama jointly inaugurated ‘Salon L’Inde’ on 19 November. Mayor of Peronne Therese Dheygers and former French Overseas Affairs Minister George Pau-Langevin participated in the inaugural event. Mr. Gassama hailed the unity in diversity of Indian culture and Mr. Prabhat felicitated Mr. Douglas Gressieux, President of ‘Les Comptoris de l’Inde’ cultural association for this initiative.
On this occasion, exhibitions on various facets of India like five decades of Indian space research progress, developments in atomic energy of India and cultural life in Varanasi were organised. A special attraction of the event was exhibition on ‘evolution of pictures on Indian matchboxes’ organised by Prof. Marcel Krier. These collections showcased shift of manufacturing of matchboxes in Japan, Austria and Sweden for India to manufacture in India itself. Covers of these matchboxes showcased pictures of Maharajas, Sultans, animals, scenes of royal court and hunting scenes, mythological stories, freedom fighters of India, beliefs in numerology and cultural icons of India etc. Two young Indian writers Amit Chaudhuri and Jerry Pinto were invited as guest of honours in this event. Various book publishing houses from France exhibited their books on Indian fiction, Yoga, Ayurveda, tourism and poetry etc. Several book lovers enthusiastically visited the exhibition. This exhibition drew more than 2000 audience.
